Net Zero Guide

Achieving net zero is an important goal for small businesses, especially as environmental regulations and customer expectations grow.

For small businesses, reducing and removing carbon emissions doesn't have to be complicated or costly.

Whether you're just starting out or are already on the journey, these 4 simple steps will help you move closer to net zero.

We’ve broken down the process into 4 easy steps

1. Understand your carbon emissions

Figure out your emissions with our easy calculator. Use real data if you have it (e.g. annual mileage). Or follow our handy hints to help you make suitable estimates.

2. Plan actions to reduce emissions

Plan some simple actions to reduce your business's carbon emissions. You can get some inspiration from our practical ideas guide to cutting your carbon emissions.

3. Set carbon removal targets

You can set whatever target suits your business best, but we recommend aiming for specific goals such as:

  • Removing a % of emissions every year (e.g. remove 20% of emissions), or
  • Removing CO₂ equivalent to a particular activity (e.g. yearly energy consumption or travel emissions), or
  • Removing enough carbon each year to reach a long-term goal (e.g. 25 tonnes of CO₂ by 2030).

4. Review

Re-evaluate your emissions every 3–5 years and adjust your targets as needed. By taking action to reduce and remove carbon, you'll move closer to net zero at each review.
